About Pedalabikeaway in the Forest of Dean

The spectacular Forest of Dean covers over 27000 acres of ancient oak woodland and coniferous forest managed on behalf of the  State by the Forestry Commission. Off-road cycling is encouraged in the Sallowvallets enclosure immediately adjacent to Pedalabikeway.  Within the enclosure (bounded by four tarmac roads) are a myriad  of off-road trails as well as waymarked cross-country routes such as the famous Verderer's and Freeminers, and a number of testing downhill lines suitable for an introduction to the more extreme end of the sport.

Elsewhere in the Dean, cycling is restricted to hard stone paths and the brilliant twelve mile, circular, traffic-free Family Cycle Trail is
designed specifically to showcase the natural delights of the forest and provide a great day
out for all the family.

Pedalabikeaway has been located at Cannop  since 1987.  Fred and Hilary Carpenter pioneered the UK Trail hub
idea and were instrumental in developing cycling in the Forest of Dean.  Without Fred's persistence we would never
have seen the opening of the Family Cycle Trail, the cross-country routes or the new bridge over the B4234
Fred and Hilary finally earnt a well deserved retirement early in 2011 and the business was passed on to Ian Officer.

Ian and the existing Pedalabikeaway team have totally refreshed the cycle centre - moving the bike hire operation to another location in the carpark and creating a new cafe seating area with a revised menu; they have opened a new
bike shop focussed on the clothing, parts and accessories, stocking all the major brands including Endura, Fox,
661 and Renthal.

We have a huge range of bikes for hire - from comfortable trail
bikes ideal for the Family Trail to high spec full suspension
machines for a full day out on the cross-country trails.

Check out our great cafe, enjoy a cappucino with one of Marilyn's famous cakes and contemplate another lap of the Forest.

Our workshop carries a wide range of parts and spares - all the
team are Cytech qualified mechanics and we are confident that
we can fix most breakdowns on the spot to keep you out and
about on the trails.
